The Sound Travel is a journey through different textures and sound ambiances.
In a relaxed and open space you go through a sensory experience made up from voices, singing bowls, drums, native flute, sansula… that brings you close to a meditative state that will enable you to connect with yourself.
Addressed to ALL people who feel like enjoying a session that will make you vibrate, feel and discover.
Make up your mind and come with children, grandparents, parents, friends, cousins… everyone is welcome!

Sound therapy is a kind of vibrational therapy that works using sound to harmonize our physical, emotional and energetic body.

By vibrational therapy we understand the usage of a frequency that is able to reharmonize the vibrations of a physical or energetic part of our body that is out of its healthy vibrations.

The human voice is the most powerful vibrational instrument, since it is connected directly to mind and soul, moreover it is available to all of us. Using our own voice as a healing instrument we can unblock and harmonize ourselves and those around us.

Discover the benefits of this ancient yoga practice, a deep relaxation as good as 4 hours of refreshing sleep.

Yoga Nidra is a powerful technique by means of which we’ll learn to relax consciously, a valuable tool for personal growth and spiritual evolution.
This state of relaxation is reached when our consciousness separates from the experience of the outside (our senses) and from the sleep state, so that the mind quietens and becomes very powerful.
In this state we can improve our body’s schema, our ability to concentrate, develop memory, increase knowledge and creativity, discover our inner potential and restructure our mind.
Yoga Nidra can be translated as “psychic sleep” or “conscious sleep”. Yoga Nidra is a sistematic method to reach the physical, emotional and mental relaxation. It is a state of sleep with complete lucidity, where the mind remains at the frontier between wake and sleep, in which the conscience is working at both levels but doesn’t really connect to any of them. Since it is very hard to keep oneself in this state, there will be moments in which the conscience will stray towards the outside through the senses and we’ll wake up, and others where we’ll slip towards drowsiness and we’ll fall asleep. With practice, the conscience tends to stabilize at the “Nidra” level, the “conscious sleep” level. In this state, the mind is highly receptive and the conscience is working in a space where it can get in touch both with the unconscious and the subconscious, letting the potential that is kept in these deep levels of the mind to show.
In the Yoga Nidra workshop we will also suggest some work on the sankalpa, an affirmative resolution that can be used as a powerful tool of personal growth.
During its practice the conscious mind will raise its sankalpa to the subconscious mind, which is very receptive in these moments, so that it can later show at a conscious level, which will contribute changes to the personality and to our life.
Through self-observation we’ll recognise our inner world and will be able to clean it, find solutions to our problems and conflicts, and to open up to the possibility to fulfil and find our real goal.

Continuing our travel through the seven chakras, we offer you a workshop about ANAHATA, the fourth chakra. During the workshop we’ll be working with different yoga exercises, meditation, sound and movement . It will have a duration of one hour and a half.

This workshop is open to everyone, to yoga and meditation practitioners as well as to those without experience.

Anahata, the heart

The expression of our body’s center at the emotional level translates into LOVE, understanding, solidarity and a seeking for harmony in life.
A healthy fourth chakra makes us value simple things in life and be satisfied with what we have.

Negative expressions lead to being too introverted, cautious and melancholic, fearful of taking part in life fully. Anahata is the bridge between material and divine.

The challenge is opening our hearts to the uninterested vibration of universal love, experiencing unity, devotion, reverence for life, a link without any interest. The fourth chakra’s love is not linked to any object. It’s a love we irradiate upon anything that we find on our path, beccause we feel it inside as a state of the being. The heart’s love is by essence lasting, eternal and constant.

The fourth chakra is also the door to emotional health. It is related to our inner world, our emotional reacion to thoughts, ideas, attitudes and inspirations, as well as the attention we give our emotional needs.

When we rest on the heart chakra, we can get rid of our past’s wounds, painful memories and disfunctional self images.
The act of forgiveness involves a process of emotional cleansing.

Himalayan Paradise during the Month of Fair Trade

Himalayan Paradise has taken part in the spreading and awareness campaign about fair trade promoted by the Asociación del Sello FAIRTRADE-Comercio Justo (Fairtrade stamp association) during the current month of october 2010, as a way of celebrating the Fair Trade Month in our country.

The association has provided us with printed information about fair trade, signs against child labor and worker’s exploitation and fair trade sugar as a giveaway for our customers, which, added to the fair trade tea tastings we’ve offered at the shop, have helped us give awareness and a tasting of fair trade products to our customers, as well as to give them information about their place of origin, the conditions under which they are manufactured, the working conditions and their social benefits.

From here we’d like to thank the Asociación del Sello del Comercio Justo for their initiative and their support, and thanks to all of our customers for their good reception of the campaign!

Chandra is a small crafts workshop just outside of Bhaktapur where magical things happen…

About a dozen women, two handicapped people and Mr. Sanu, Sanu Dai to us, work there. Sanu Dai is a man with a great heart, an entrepreneur and a fighter, who wants to change the world from his small workshop… And he’s doing it! On the walls we can see signs saying “Children labor is the path to hell”, “Don’t let them tell you, read the paper” or “Smile, please”… To work in such a nice environment and following these principles is deserving of great recognition! They are trying to get the WFTO’s stamp, and our experience with them tells us they really deserve it… we’re sure they’ll get it!

In this workshop there is clothing manufacture, organic rice paper crafting and printing and natural incense elaboration. Nothing at all! Everything they do following crafting methods, the fair trade principles and with very high quality standards. They’ve won a few creativity in fair trade awards and they are partners with Sana Hastakala.

Bhaktapur Craft Paper

Bhaktapur Craft Paper is a comunity development project through the crafting of paper founded by UNICEF in 1981. It has since developed and grown with the following three main objectives:

better the quality of life of poor or disadvantaged people from the Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi, Lamjung Gorkha and Bhaktapur districts,
allow craftspeople to continue with their ancient trade, the making and handcrafting of Lokta Paper, so that they and their families can live decently with the profits obtained and
give fresh impetus to local economy.

We’ve visited this project twice in 2010, in January and in July, and in both occasions we’ve been able to hear from the incumbents’ mouths, the wonderful community development, water supply, plumbing and child school support projects they carry out using the profits of selling the paper they craft. BCP is a model project in terms of sustainability and social engagement, that was created by UNICEF but is already self-managed and works in collaboration with the Small Farmers Development Programme, The Department Of Forest and The Department Of Cottage And Small Industries of Nepal.

WSDP: giving chances to disadvantaged women

In January of 2010 we went as far as Pokhara, on the northwest of Nepal, to visit the Woman Skills Development Project cooperative, a very strong project that’s been giving chances to women from the rural areas close to Pokhara in a risk of social exclusion for more than 35 years. When we arrived there, the charming Ramkali Khadka welcomed us with a big smile and related to us with all detail and passion everything about this wonderful project she founded in order to give Nepali women the tools to self-sufficiency. Accompanied by her and some of the cooperative’s women we shared a day of work and of fulfilled dreams.

WSDP aims to include widowed, single, illiterate women and those in risk of social exclusion into the work market by way of educating them in different subjects and by providing them with a job in a continued and dignified way. This entity’s work is centered in the crafting of handbags, bags, children toys, slippers, purses… All of them completely handcrafted, made of 100% organic cotton and colored using natural dyes. The whole production process takes place at the cooperative: from the cotton growth to its dying, including the pattern design, the making… Thus they create whole collections with a very special and colourful style, products that obviously reflect the love with which they have been crafted, and thanks to which many women have been able and still are to live out of the profits of their own work.

This project started by educating 13 women in the seventies and nowadays more than a hundred women are part of and benefit from its programs of education and work. It works in a completely democratic way and all of its members receive fair and equal salaries for their work. There is of course no children labor and salubrity and no contamination regulations are respected.

This entity belongs to the Fair Trade Group Nepal and has received the WFTO‘s stamp.

Bhaktpur Pottery

Every pottery product you’ll find at Himalayan Paradise is made at the medieval town of Bhaktapur, one of the three cities in the Kathmandu Valley, in Nepal. This city is catalogued as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in its narrow streets the ancient newar tradition of handcrafted pottery still lives.

Himalayan Paradise works in Bhaktapur with two entities which are also collaborators of Mahaguthi and Sana Hastakala. They are small crafts workshops managed following the criteria of fair trade. There is no child labor, they are mostly made up by women, who receive the same salaries as their male counterparts, the salaries all workers receive are fair and allow them to live in dignity. Safety and sanitary conditions at work are followed and the environment is respected, as are working hours and festivities agreed among all workers.

We’ve visited our potter partners from Bhaktapur in January as well as in July of 2010 and we’ve been able to see how they keep alive the centenarian tradition of Nepali pottery, using completely traditional methods and ensuring fair and sustainable trade. This way they use their ancient knowledge to create gorgeous objects both for decoration and for household use meant to be used and enjoyed nowadays.

Mahaguthi

Mahaguthi, “Craft with a Conscience” is a fair trade organization that produces, markets and exports Nepal handcrafts. The cooperative is made up from more than a thousand individual producers and about ten other small artisan cooperatives or workshops, 50% of which belong to rural or mountainous areas. The majority of the producers are women who have been given the chance to put their traditional knowledge and skills to use in the artisan production of goods as diverse as lokta paper, pottery, fashions, painting… This has enabled them to contribute to their families’ sustainance and to flee thus the danger of social exclusion. Moreover, 40% of the profits obtained by Mahaguthi are destined directly to Ashram Tulsi Mehar Mahila, where sheltering programs for women and children, literacy campaigns for adults, professional training, feeding, education and health care take place.

Mahaguthi supervises the production conditions of the handcrafters to ensure that they fulfill the conditions of Fair Trade, and offers them technical, social and financial support. Mahaguthi is one of the most important travel companions of Himalayan Paradise in Nepal. Mahaguthi has the World Fair Trade Organization stamp and is a member of the Fair Trade Group Nepal.

First Chakra Workshop

During the current year we are going to offer you an interesting travel through the seven chakras, the human body’s energetic centers. Each month we’ll tackle the activation of a different chakra using a diversity of yoga exercices, meditation, vocal expression and movement. Mooladhara, the first chakra.

Stability. Deep roots. A feeling of being welcomed into the world. A connexion to physical strength and health. Confidence, being settled in life.

The first workshop in the travel will be on saturday the 16th of October from 10 to 11:30 am at HIMALAYAN PARADISE and will be led by Delphine Guermeur, yoga teacher and therapist. We’ll focus on the root chakra, MOOLADHARA, which holds the foundations for mental and emotional health.

Unbalance in the root chakra is related to certain illnesses like osteoporosis, sciatica, varicose veins, chronic lumbar pain… and to the following emotional dysfunctions: mental lethargy, vertigo, an unfocused mind, restlessness and problems trying to accomplish objectives. On the opposite, when it works well, a person has a great physical strength and rarely becomes ill; moreover she or he gets a feeling of self-assuredness, has a powerful wish to live in the physical reality and shows a great strength in bad situations. There is a feeling of self-reliance, the person feels they have good grounds, a home, stability…
